Ski School
It is advisable to book your ski school in advance especially in peak periods. It is understandable to want to wait and discuss your level etc in person with them but they do get full.. If you have booked but got your level wrong they can deal with that and move you appropriately.
If you are total beginners and have booked ski school it is a good idea to wait until you arrive in resort and talk to the ski school before you buy your lift pass. You usually won’t need a full pass for the first few days.
The picturesque little resort of Sixt is a great place to learn. It’s only 10 minutes drive from Samoens. You don’t need to take a cable car to reach the pistes, you can just park your car right there. It’s much, much quieter than Samoens or Morillon, the lift pass is cheap (14.60 euros per day for adults, 11.70 for children, free for under 8s). There are a couple of beginner green runs and a couple of nice long blues to progress to. If you are total beginners there is easily enough to keep you busy for 3 full days, maybe longer.
ESF
The biggest ski school. Instructors speak English and French. Offering group and private lessons for children and adults. Don’t be afraid to take group lessons, even (or perhaps especially) as a total beginner. Pound for pound the progress you will make in group lessons will far outweigh the progress you will make in the equivalent cost of private lessons. The groups are great value and the instructors are all well experienced in giving each group member the instruction they need.
